If you’ve spent thousands of pounds and hundreds of hours restoring a classic car collection, the last thing you want is for someone to come along and steal your pride and joy. Of course, the issue is that high-value automobiles will always seem attractive to criminals because they offer the best potential for making a healthy return on their efforts. Thankfully, there are lots of things classic car owners can do to keep their treasured possessions safe and secure from thieves. Just consider some of the tips mentioned below.
Keep your keys safe!
Most criminals would agree that it’s much easier to steal your keys than hotwire your classic cars. For that reason, you need to think long and hard about where you keep them in the house. Lots of people leave their car keys on a table or hanger next to their front door. It may seem obvious but thieves would only have to lean inside for a brief moment to achieve their goal and drive away in your vehicle. Help yourself by making sure you keep the keys in a secure place where criminals wouldn’t think to look. Or better still, keep them in a security safe.
Install a GPS tracker!
There are many different automobile GPS tracking devices available on the market today, and most of them do not cost a fortune. Installing one of those items on your car could help you (and the police) to track the vehicle if a criminal ever manages to steal it from your driveway. That increases the chances of someone finding the car before it’s shipped overseas or sold on the black market. There are even specialists out there who focus their efforts on installing those devices for classic car owners.
Add a mechanical immobiliser!
Mechanical immobilisers are manual tools that you can use to prevent someone from driving your car. The most cost effective purchase you can make is a steering lock. They stop any unwanted guests in your vehicle from turning the steering wheel, and so they aren’t going to get far. There are also electronic immobilisers available if you want to go a step further. However, some classic car owners don’t like the idea of adding too much modern technology.
Install CCTV Cameras
Install CCTV cameras in view of your classic car, that way you can keep an eye on it wherever you are in the world through your smart device or mobile phone. CCTV cameras can also act as a deterrent to would-be thieves.
Fit an alarm system!
